SPARK – Ignite Your Curiosity

Osher at Towson University's SPARK evening programming is back. SPARK is for curious minds, empty nesters, and retirees who want to explore fun and intriguing topics in a relaxed environment. SPARK runs March 27–May 4 and is divided into three courses, each meeting once per week at TU for a total of six sessions per course.

The Birth of Social Activism in America

Join history professor Robert Baer for a look at how social movements prior to the Civil War led to a dramatic rethinking of societal attitudes, with a look at movements to abolish slavery; promote women’s rights, peace and temperance; and encourage health, education and labor reform.

Wakandans, Amazons, and Robotmen: Representation and Culture in Comics

Join comic-guru Scott West and discover how the representation of marginalized communities has evolved in comics with special emphasis on the impact of depictions within cultural contexts and the identity of creators telling their own stories.

The Fitzgeralds and the Lost Generation

Join Baltimore historian Jack Burkert to learn about the personalities of the "lost generation.” Take an in-depth look at Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald and their writings and the impact Hemingway, Picasso, Stein and American émigrés had on the arts and culture of the Roaring Twenties.
