As the 2022-23 academic year comes to an end, I am filled with immense pride for all that our university community has accomplished together these last 10 months.
From academic achievements and art performances to athletic successes and the opening of many new facilities – this has truly been one of the most momentous years in Towson University’s history.
This year, we recognized institutional trailblazers who have helped shape our campus’s culture of diversity and inclusion; we cheered on Tiger Athletics through numerous award-winning seasons; we applauded our university’s best artists and musicians at annual concerts, showcases, and recitals; and we celebrated as dozens of students earned national scholarships and awards, including six Fulbright finalists—the most in university history.
We have also witnessed unparalleled growth—both in our physical campus and inside our community. We cut the ribbon on several of state-of-the-art facilities, including the Academic Commons, the Center for Interdisciplinary & Innovative Cybersecurity, and the Soistman Family Athletic Academic Achievement Center, while construction continues on our new College of Health Professions building. And soon this fall, we will welcome the largest incoming freshmen class in TU history, full of bright young Tigers who will bring even more excitement, passion, and diversity to our campus.
But perhaps most importantly, we have changed lives. Thanks to TU’s world-class educators and our community’s collective service, philanthropy, leadership, research, and creativity, Towson University is making a global impact every day. This certainly includes the 3,100 Tigers who graduated this week, who will now join more than 186,000 alumni around the globe putting their TU education to use to make the world a better place.
I truly believe the future of TU is brighter than ever, and I cannot wait to see what the 2023-24 academic year will hold for us.
Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
Melanie Perreault, Ph.D.
