The US has more job seekers than open jobs. These 10 states are seeing the biggest increases in unemployment claims. Business Insider, September 5, 2025
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released report in early September showing that there are more job seekers than job openings across the country for the first time since April 2021. Among all states, those with the highest increase in unemployment claims include Connecticut, Tennessee, and the District of Columbia. RESI Chief Economist Daraius Irani noted that employers have significantly lowered their hiring rates, but are reluctant to reduce their overall employment out of concern that it will be difficult to rehire people if needed.
