Ongoing pandemic continues to add to worker shortage in Maryland WBAL-TV 11, September 16, 2021
Despite Maryland’s job recovery in July, many employers report difficulty hiring for in-person positions. One study found that only 1 in 8 unemployed workers found employment in August. RESI Chief Economist Daraius Irani believes that living through the pandemic has caused a lot of people to rethink their career choices. Irani stated, “There are a number of factors. First of all, accessible child care. People are looking at different career options, more flexibility in their careers. People are opting for early retirement.”
