But let’s not forget about the Murder Hornets
Are you an optimist or a pessimist, or something else entirely? Do you see the glass as half empty, half full, or are you concentrating on those pesky spots that the dishwasher left behind? I think most of us like to think of ourselves as realists. I tried to be neither a pessimist nor an optimist but a realist while getting ready for the fall semester this time around. The pessimist in me has me coming up with worst-case scenarios that prompt plans A, B, C, D, etc. The optimist in me didn’t quite make the cheerleading squad but is full of “can do” spirit. And the realist in me has been shrugging my shoulders and repeating the phrase “these things happen” even when something completely out of the ordinary occurs. Optimist, pessimist, realist, or otherwise, I know that we need to strike a balance. We have to maintain high standards while accepting that not everything goes as planned. We have to try our best and believe that others are also trying their best too. We have to recognize how happy we are to see the friendly (albeit masked) faces of our Osher students and instructors after all this time away from the classroom—and we are!!! And, we have to be ready for whatever great stuff comes our way as we start the fall semester together!
Stay safe and healthy,
