Off and On
Some days I am sure that technology is out to get me. We've all been there, I know. Lately, it’s my so-called “smart” TV that for no rhyme or reason cuts out at exactly the wrong moment. Of course, there is no right moment for the screen to turn completely black while I’m watching a movie or the news. On second thought, I guess it’s okay if it cuts out during the news once in a while. Anyway, for as many years as I’ve been able to use a phone, a computer, a television, a microwave, a photocopier, or just about any other electronic device, big or small, I’ve had something go haywire inexplicably. It’s not just the hardware but the software too. I’ve had many an IT person tell me, “I’ve never seen anything like this before” after seeing the glitch du jour. Back in the day of analog TV sets, I would just walk past our television and the signal would go crazy or it would just shut off altogether. I’m not bragging, but just about every work computer I’ve ever had has required that a specialist get involved to find out what’s wrong. I figure that it’s just me. I’m the common denominator in all of this. I am the “user” in “user error”. I’ve been this close to throwing my computer out the window on several occasions. Thank goodness I’m a patient person, relatively speaking. I realize that even though I may have an acute case, it’s not just me who suffers from the frustration of tech gone wrong. From time to time, technical difficulties happen. We just started online registration. Believe me, I appreciate your patience as you work your way through the process with the idiosyncrasies that are inherent in the system. Whether your frustrations come from technology or otherwise, I think that the same advice applies. Turn it off, wait for thirty seconds, then turn it back on. It’s amazing what a little reset can do to calm the nerves.
Stay safe and healthy,
