Hero Image

As many of our readers will know, I was recently named director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. I had previously served as assistant director under Jackie Gratz's leadership and served as interim director following Jackie’s retirement at the end of last May. Since I started working at Osher just over three years ago, it has been my pleasure to get to know our members and instructors. What a great community we have! I am excited to take on my new role as director and will work to move Osher at TU forward by continuing to provide outstanding programming, creating new and lasting connections within the Towson University community, and working with our members, including those who generously volunteer their time at Osher, on new initiatives that will help grow and sustain our program for years to come.

Best Regards,

Volunteers Make the Difference

image name

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Towson University thrives in no small part to an amazing group of volunteers who stay involved even when they are not in class. In 2017, over 80 individuals volunteered their time. Volunteers are able to participate on committees, facilitate special interest groups and book clubs, and plan day trips to enhance the member experience. Volunteers also make up the Coordinating Council, providing insight and recommendations to the director. LEARN MORE

"Volunteering is an ideal way to meet people and I like having an input in the organization. It is an important part in feeling invested in the organization."

—Kathy Cuddy, Social/Hospitality Committee

Volunteer Opportunities Abound

Osher operates with a small staff, so the support of volunteers is vital to the growth and success of our programming. If you would like to find out more about volunteer opportunities, please contact Shelby Jones at sjones@towson.edu or 410-704-3688.

Sustaining a Legacy

Many Osher members may remember Patty Beere Ruby well. She was a TU staff member and a huge champion of Osher. The Patty Beere Ruby Memorial Endowment was established in 2008 to honor her memory by providing funding to celebrate and promote the Osher program. Donations to this memorial fund are used to provide refreshments at Osher when classes are in session and at Previews twice a year. LEARN MORE
