One for the Ages
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times: I was meant to work with the older crowd. The proof? I love “Jeopardy,” crossword puzzles, and Werther’s Original Candies. I’m not sure if this is enough to make me an old soul or not. Mere weeks ago, I would have taken offense at the thought of being labeled an old soul, but I have matured a lot since then. It’s true that I also try to stay hip to the young people’s jive and now I have an unexpectedly helpful tool: People Magazine. Somehow, I started receiving People in the mail a few weeks ago (thank you, if you are the one who got me a gift subscription!) and I’ve found that it is basically a primer in newer celebrities that I never even knew existed. If I had known that People could help me bridge the generational gap with such grace and aplomb, I would have ordered it myself a long time ago. The truth is that nobody needs to restrict their likes and dislikes to things that are age appropriate. My Lawrence Welk-watching grandmother knew this when she shopped for her trendy outfits from the juniors’ department. If we are lucky, we will all face the day when we are older than all the professional baseball players on the field, when we get a funny look after using the bon mot of the day, or when we find that our party conversation is rife with discussion about health insurance and our new ailments. It’s never too late, or too early, to not act our age and to not really care.
Stay safe and healthy,
Tracy Jacobs
