Tension
This newsletter is being written on a Tuesday and comes out on a Thursday. In between, as you can guess, is Wednesday. But this Wednesday isn’t just any Wednesday. It’s Inauguration Day. Inauguration Days are always noteworthy to be sure, but the suspense around this one is off the charts. Just a couple of Wednesdays ago, the tension surrounding the last four years and the last year in particular, came to a crescendo that seemed at once to be both unfathomable and completely expected. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I’m not anxious about this Wednesday—tomorrow—or yesterday, by the time you are reading this. I think we are all feeling this way. If it’s not about the Inauguration, it’s about something else. Sitting on the edge of our seats, peeking between our fingers, and hoping that whenever our mothers told us, “This too shall pass,” they were right.
Stay safe and healthy,
Tracy Jacobs

A history of unusual presidential inaugurations

When Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn into office many of the traditional activities, such as the parade and inaugural balls, were done virtually or skipped altogether. However, the 2021 presidential inauguration wasn't the first atypical ceremony in the nation's history.
