Participles - Exercise 1

Directions:  Locate the participle in each sentence.  Type your answer into the box below the sentence. When you are finished, click the "Check My Work" button at the bottom of the page to check your answers.

Note: If the participle is part of a participial phrase, include the whole phrase in your answer.

1.  Jen liked to think of the ocean as a habitat for creatures sharing the planet with her.



2. Citizens forced into poverty by unfair government policies will usually support a new candidate.



3.  Dazzled by the orchestra's brilliant performance, the audience clapped wildly.



4.  Many of Bill's friends considered him to be a walking encyclopedia.



5.  The crowds milling around the accident scene were dazed by what they had seen.



6.  The movers finally arrived in a large van loaded with furniture and boxes.



7.  We looked over the rules explaining the game.



8.  A wave curling over the surfer seemed to swallow him for a moment.



9.  I gave my completed manuscript to the publisher.
