How will Maryland cut greenhouse gas emissions 60% by 2031? These UMD researchers mapped it out. The Baltimore Sun, June 30, 2023
On June 30, researchers from the University of Maryland’s Center for Global Sustainability released a draft report detailing the steps necessary for Maryland to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. State law now requires for Maryland to cut emissions to 40% of 2006 levels by 2031 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. The report is broken down by economic sector, suggesting actions based on conversations with state agencies and modeling of the effects of potential policy changes on emission levels. In addition, the report includes health benefits of reduced emissions, which were provided by researchers at the Regional Economic Studies Institute.
