New economic development zone approved for near Towson University The Daily Record, July 28, 2023
The Maryland Department of Commerce has announced that a new economic development zone is set to be created around Towson University. The Regional Institution Strategic Enterprise (RISE) zone will comprise 419 acres throughout downtown Towson and the university and is expected to offer rental assistance to businesses choosing to locate within the zone. RESI Chief Economist Daraius Irani noted that this new zone will harmonize with Towson University’s existing StarTUp program, which provides an accelerator for local entrepreneurs as well as free co-working space and meeting rooms to the community.
