From my desk: News from President Schatzel

Serving as a sought-after partner.

As the largest university in Greater Baltimore, Towson University anchors the surrounding community. We do it through our expertise and research as well as investment in programs and partnerships, public spaces and buildings, that expand and extend our reach.

As I shared in my address to campus last month, TU is opening a new front door in the heart of Towson with the redevelopment of the historic Armory building. When it opens in 2020, this vibrant space will be known as the StarTUp, a business-first space to engage the region’s entrepreneurs and executives from small businesses to the largest corporations. It will catalyze and connect all of them to each other—and to TU's outstanding programs and people.

The StarTUp will raise the bar as a model for university-business engagement and be a place where successful leaders can network and connect with peers, accelerate new ventures, find a strategic hire, develop new solutions, attract investment and showcase their work.

TU has already found success in the Mid-Atlantic business development space. The TU Incubator has supported 100+ companies and today is the largest, first and only ed/tech incubator in Maryland. These startups are using technology to transform education, increase student engagement and improve performance. And TU is helping to make that happen.

TU also connects the campus and community through the Baltimore + Towson University = BTU: Partnerships at Work for Greater Baltimore initiative. A Presidential Priority now in its third year, BTU has expanded to include 370+ active engagements with 594 partner organizations to create positive impacts in every county in Maryland.

In science, BTU represents a unit of work, power or energy—that’s exactly what Towson University is investing into our partnerships, to transform lives throughout Greater Baltimore and Maryland.

There's much to be proud of at Towson University, and there are truly great things ahead!
