From my desk: News from President Schatzel

Innovation for the public good.

During my career as an entrepreneur and throughout my years in higher education, I have learned that innovation is central to an institution’s continued success and momentum. At Towson University, opportunities for innovation are endless.

TU is home to many incredible programs that offer our students real-world experiences that are highly relevant and rigorous. A great example of these unmatched opportunities for students is The StarTUp, TU’s business engagement center that serves as a driver of economic and entrepreneurial growth for Towson and Greater Baltimore.

The StarTUp and its Accelerator Program – the latest cohort of which secured $800,000 in funding – truly embody TU’s commitment to business and community engagement. And in just its first year, the StarTUp has been recognized as one of North America’s top university economic development initiatives – recently named one of four Engaged University finalists for the University Economic Development Association’s 2022 Awards of Excellence. Housed at The Armory, one of Towson’s most historic landmarks, our business engagement center has proven to be an incredible asset for Towson University and its community.

We are proud that TU’s role as an anchor institution continues to spark innovation that benefits the public good.

Today and every day, it is a great time to be a Towson Tiger.

Sincerely,

Signature

Kim Schatzel, Ph.D.

President
