A powerful catalyst for Maryland.
It's an exciting time at Towson University. The spring term is moving along smoothly. Performances at the Center for the Arts are underway. Our Tigers basketball teams are having an historic season. And we're making progress on key initiatives that advance our institution's mission as a national leader in inclusive excellence that is all the while providing leadership for the public good.
This month, our students took to Annapolis — virtually — to meet with our legislative leaders for the 23rd annual Tiger Pride Day. This day of advocacy is a great opportunity for our students to learn about the legislative process. That's not all we're doing in Annapolis, either. In the coming weeks, we'll share some of the priority projects underway on campus that are part of TU's campus master planning that will have added more than a billion square feet of new or renovated space by 2030.
The improvements to our physical campus also align with our strategic plan that places research and student success at the core of our mission. We're continuing discussions this spring around the university-wide effort that will fulfill our goal of attaining a Carnegie Classification of R2—High Research Activity, as set forth last spring.
The coming weeks will also put on display some key programming in support of our efforts as an anchor institution for Greater Baltimore. Our StarTUp at the Armory is hosting the first College Cup as part of our university-wide entrepreneurship efforts, and the Dr. Nancy Grasmick Leadership Institute is holding a panel this month on the “Future of Work” that will look at how leaders are acting as change agents in response to “The Great Resignation” two years after the pandemic began.
TU is facing the key questions before our world head-on, and approaching them with action, as a powerful catalyst for Maryland.
There is so much to be proud of at Towson University, and through strong leadership on and around campus, there are indeed great things ahead!
Sincerely,
Kim Schatzel, Ph.D.
President
