Dr. Julius Chapman Quadrangle
Dr. Julius “Dean” Chapman was TU’s Dean of Minority Affairs from 1969-1981. Dr. Chapman recruited and mentored African American students while helping to establish the Black Student Union, the Black Faculty and Administrators Association, and the Black Cultural Center. Each of the nine TU chapters of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, a collaborative council of nine historically African American international Greek lettered fraternities and sororities, were created as a result of his unprecedented leadership and guidance. His dedication to African American student success was instrumental in helping students complete their TU degrees, and his influence has forever enriched their lives and the TU community.
In fall 2019, TU razed the Stephens Annex. In its place is the Chapman Quad, a green space for our campus community to congregate, reflect, and feel welcome.
