Comma Splices and Fused Sentences - Exercise 1

Directions:Combine each pair of simple sentences into a compound sentence. Use an appropriate coordinating conjunction and the correct punctuation between the two independent clauses.

1. Dogs are obedient animals.

Cats are their own bosses.



2. At this restaurant, patrons order food a la carte.

They buy a complete dinner.



3. Harold wants the Boston Red Sox to win the World Series.

His favorite team is the Baltimore Orioles.



4. The union leaders wanted to strike.

The union members were not being paid a living wage.



5. Your resume looks quite promising.
