To the TUgis community,

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are moving the 2020 TUgis Conference to a multi-day, virtual event.

This decision has not been made lightly and is a result of many conversations among the TUgis partnering organizations—the Maryland State Geographic Information Committee, Maryland Department of Information Technology, and Towson University.

The TUgis Conference has been a place to grow and empower the GIS community since 1989. And, while this summer’s event will be totally different than previous conferences, our goals remain the same:

  1. Build and foster relationships within the GIS community
  2. Expose students to the GIS profession
  3. Share best practices for using GIS to address critical issues
  4. Highlight the latest advances in the field
  5. Celebrate the accomplishments and work of GIS colleagues

While we don’t have all the answers yet, we are working to host an engaging, educational, and enriching experience for everyone. Here’s what we do know:

  • Programming: This year’s event will include a mix of live and recorded programming—including your presentations and different styles and lengths of sessions.
  • Call for Presentations: We can’t host this conference without you and your work! We have extended the deadline to May 29. We encourage you to continue to pull together an abstract and submit before the deadline. SUBMIT ABSTRACT
  • Refunds: We understand the budget challenges all of us are facing. We are evaluating ticket pricing options and will make an announcement soon.
  • Sponsor and exhibitors: We are working on a solution for our sponsors and exhibitors and will reach out in a separate email soon.

The GIS community is close knit. That sense of community helps to make TUgis a special event. And, it’s that sense of community that will help guide the success of this year’s virtual event.

Thank you for your continued support of TUgis.

If you have suggestions or input, reply to this email. We’re open to new ideas.

Be well and be safe. We’ll be back in touch in the coming weeks as plans come together.

Best regards,
