Snow, snow go away
I’m writing this as I look out my office window at snow falling from the sky. The flakes are big and coming down rather quickly. Just two days ago, people were out enjoying a sunny 60 degree day and now this. You know what they say about Maryland weather: “if you don’t like it, just wait a few minutes and it will change.” Later this week, the temperatures are going to get balmy once again, even creeping up into the seventies by the weekend. As I write this, though, I’m not thinking about today’s weather or the weather at the end of the week. I’m thinking about tomorrow morning—Tuesday—and our first day of in-person classes this semester. After this snowy system passes through, another system carrying mixed precipitation is coming in the morning after which it will turn to rain. Because of our location in the crosshairs of the rain-snow line, Maryland weather can be hard to predict. I swear sometimes it’s one type of weather on one side of the street and another on the other side. At this point in the winter, I no longer feel that gloves, hats, and scarves are de rigueur to leave the house. The days are staying lighter longer into the early evening, and I am over winter. Done. I have my summer pool pass, so it’s time to put away the parkas. Winter hasn’t quite taken my hint. We aren’t able to control everything in life, but we can control our reactions. So, while I can’t control the weather, my reaction to snow, ice, and mixed precipitation at this is typically, “go away!”
Stay safe and healthy,
Tracy Jacobs
