TU Osher News & Notes

Just what the doctor ordered

The other day, I was leaving the store and unwittingly walked through a germ cloud emanating from the man in front of me, as he coughed and hacked his way out the door. It’s that time of year. Everyone has either been sick, is currently sick, or is about to get sick with whatever cold du jour is out there. To stave off a cold, get plenty of sleep, wash your hands frequently and load up on zinc, or echinacea, or vitamin C. If it’s too late and you already have a cold, then there are several things you will need to treat it effectively. First, you will need a comfortable sofa with a warm blanket. Then, you will need an ample supply of Kleenex or other brand name tissue. Spring for the good stuff. You deserve better than just one ply. If your stomach is feeling a bit woozy, you will need some ginger ale to sip on although it's fine to sip on ginger ale even if your stomach feels fine. For a sore throat, of course, tea with honey is necessary. Wonton soup is an all-purpose elixir, so you should have that on hand. Some will argue that chicken noodle soup is the cure-all, and that just depends on which school of thought you come from. Depending on your ability to stay awake, you will also find that a few of the latest magazines and perhaps some crossword puzzles will help too. Finally, you will need a television set tuned in to “The Price is Right.” If you feel groggy, you may need to nap during commercials, but you don’t want to miss the showcase showdown at the end of the broadcast. With these things in place, I hope you will feel better soon. Better yet, I hope you don’t come down with any sort of cold in the first place.

Stay safe and healthy,
